The committee will be meeting soon to discuss how to take the club forward through the end of this season and beyond.

The club can not continue foward with only a few members taking on most if not all the responsibilities. With many players not making themselves available for training or matches on a regular basis a lot of pressure is being put on those who are available which often can have the adverse affect of pushing them away from the club in turn.

While we don't expect everyone to be available 24/7 we do need people to be committed players who also pay their way financially.

We also need people to be willing to help out with the running of the club. There are many different roles available on the committee for different abilities and skills. Don't forget "many hands make light work" and the more people willing to share the jobs the easier it will be for everyone involved.

The club has been approached regarding sharing the cost of training by joining forces with another hockey club to train together. The obvious advantages here would be the financial savings. However there are disadvantages as the individual identity of each club could fade and players could end up being poached or if the club decided to change back to individual training only to find their existing training slots are no longer available to them and the pitch provider could be reluctant to take on the hire again thinking that they may later opt out.

While it would be a shame to lose Instonians LHC as a seperate identity ... with it being one of the oldest clubs in the UWHU leagues and celebrating it's 90th birthday in 2010 ... it may be that the club will fold anyway if it continues as it is currently.

There are other things that need to be improved within the club too such as fundraising, generating new members etc.

Please give your views on the above and here are a few specific questions to help focus your thoughts ...

1. What do you think about training with another hockey club?

2. What is your committment as a player?

3. Would you be able to take on some responsibility in the running of the club?

4. What are your fundraising ideas?

Thanks in advance for your input.

ILHC
